Chapter 13

Author’s POV

Weeks passed like a gentle breeze—unnoticed, yet transformative.

In that time, the Khannas and the Sharmas didn’t just remain acquaintances anymore; they became something closer to family. Shared lunches turned into long conversations, festivals were celebrated together, and laughter echoed freely between the two homes. Somewhere along the way, the parents began noticing what the children themselves were trying very hard not to acknowledge.

Lingering looks.
Soft smiles.
An ease that came too naturally.

So one evening, seated together in the Khanna living room, the elders made a decision.

A deliberate one.

That same evening, both Samriddhi and Vaibhav were called to the Khanna house.

The Evening That Changed Everything

When Samriddhi arrived, Vaibhav was already there.

Their eyes met.

And stayed.

For a few heartbeats too long.

He noticed her first—how her dupatta rested on her shoulder, how her hair framed her face. She noticed him too—the calm in his posture, the familiarity that now felt… comforting.

Neither of them spoke.

A subtle clearing of throats snapped them back.

Embarrassed, they quickly looked away.

Dinner passed with light conversation, teasing remarks, and an undercurrent of anticipation that neither could name. Once the plates were cleared and tea was served, silence settled—heavy, meaningful.

That’s when Nandini spoke.

“We wanted to talk about something important.”

Both Samriddhi and Vaibhav straightened.

Suhasini continued, her voice warm yet firm.
“We’ve been observing you both… for quite some time.”

Anil smiled knowingly.
“And we believe it’s time we discuss your… marriage.”

The world stopped.

Samriddhi’s breath hitched.

Vaibhav’s ears burned red.

Shock.
Disbelief.
And an emotion they weren’t ready to name.

They stole glances at each other—quick, shy, searching.

“Hum… hum pehle baat karna chahte hain,” Vaibhav said softly.

Samriddhi nodded immediately.
“Ek dusre se.”

The parents exchanged satisfied smiles.

“Terrace,” Nandini suggested.
